Overview

It is one of the greatest privileges and responsibilities that we have as a congregation of God's people to nurture the the faith or our covenant children. The scriptures tell us that throughout the history of the church, children were included in her services of worship. The law of God stipulated that Israel was to "Gather the people together, men and women and little ones, and the stranger who is within your gates, that they may learn to fear the LORD your God and carefully observe all the words of this law, and that their children, who have not known it, may hear and learn to fear the LORD your God as long as you live in the land which you cross to possess" (Dueteronomy 31: 12-13).

Children and Worship

It is our intent to teach the children of our church, at as early an age as is possible, to attend and profit from the corporate worship of the church. This is God's appointed means for their growth in grace as it is for our own. Therefore, children of all ages are always welcome at all our services of worship.

Special sections of the weekly bulletin are included to assist young children in following along with and understanding the church liturgy and sermon content.

We understand that some children may require preparation and training in how to benefit from corporate worship. In order to assist parents in training, we offer developmentally graded opportunities for children (birth to age 6) at each of our worship services.

Nurseries are provided during worship services for infants and toddlers.

Preschool children (3-4 years old) may attend a class for the full period of the worship service. They will be taught a Bible lesson, pray, have a light refreshment and perhaps do a craft activity designed to compliment the subject.

A voluntary Children's Worship Service is conducted during the sermon phase of our regular corporate worship and is offered for children in kindergarten and first grade. Participating children will be dismissed from the sanctuary in the care of their teacher, to receive a Bible lesson designed to incorporate the main points being covered in the day's sermon. Instruction in the creeds and confessions of the church and often sung hymns and prayers are also part of the day's instruction.

Older children (second grade through high school) attend at worship with their families and the larger family of God. In this, we are trusting God will use His appointed means for our children to grow in grace, just as he does with all His children. The promises of God are to us and to our children. We look expectantly to Him to be faithful to His promises in bringing our children into the corporate life of the body of Christ.
